Coolest 7 Weapons in MMORPGs

by Jessica "Allahweh" Brown, September 27 2011

There are various ways to kill enemies and other players in MMORPGs. Physical weapons are but one of those ways. This is a list of some of the popular and cool weapons that can be found in MMORPGs.

7. DRAGON SWORDS (Guild Wars, 2005)

Nicholas the Traveler is an NPC that wanders around Tyria offering special quests with very rare rewards. There is a low chance that completing some of his quests may result in him giving the player one of three different types of Dragon Swords Fiery, Icy, and Vampiric. Though they each have interesting status effects (such as life-stealing), their main appeal is their rarity and that they make those wielding them look very sinister.

6. MANHOLE COVER (City of Heroes, 2004)

The Manhole Cover item in City of Heroes is mostly a costume piece and offers no real damage or defense bonus. However, it does look pretty neat and is a great item for players to use depending on how they envision their characters. Not all weapons and armor have to have stat boosts, do they?

5. DRAGON SLAYER (Lineage II, 2004)

The Dragon Slayer is a powerful bigsword from Lineage II that can be obtained from drops of enemies Level 69 and above. In some cases the drop rate is as low as 1/111111 though some enemies, particularly Antharas, have a drop rate of 25%. While the sword has some powerful status boosts that are gained from equipping it, it has become a cult favorite among Lineage II players simply because it looks awesome.

4. SPANNER (Warhammer Online, 2008)

Spanners are hammer-like weapons wielded by Engineers in Warhammer Online. What makes them unique is that they essentially look like wrenches of various types. This is fitting for the Engineers though it does look a bit quirky, albeit cool!

3. THE UNTAMED BLADE (World of Warcraft, 2004)

The Untamed Blade is another epic two-handed blade with nice stat boosts and an awesome look to it. The blade can be obtained as loot from Razorgore the Untamed in Blackwing Lair, though the drop-rate is only 10%. The sword is simply massive, which makes the included picture all the more humorous!

2. BANANA SCYTHE (Guild Wars, 2005)

The Banana Scythe doesn't really have any special powers or stat boosts to offer, though it is one of the most unusual weapons in Guild Wars. The item can be obtained through a quest early on in Guild Wars Nightfall. Although it isn't viable as a weapon, players love to have it equipped for a fun laugh while running around towns. After all, it's fruit combined with the weapon of choice for Death himself.

1. ZARICHE', SWORD OF THE DEVIL (Lineage II, 2004)

It would be a lie to say that Lineage II isn't known for its awesome weapons and Zariche' is very unique when it comes to physical weapons. The sword is a mystical, cursed weapon with a lot of lore attached to it and it only appears at one place at any given time on the game's server. When acquired, the item is bound to the player, cannot be unequipped, and must be used until its life-span runs out. The sword automatically recovers all MP and HP upon pickup but the character is infused with madness. The sword has a very high damage rating (it can kill most people in one hit!) and using it to kill another player enhances its overall power. The catch? Killing others with the blade will also decrease its lifespan.
