Gaming Blogs You Didn't Know Existed: Part IV

by Chris Palmarozzi, August 1, 2012

Its been a little over a year since I last wrote about some of the unsung oratorical heroes in the gaming community. I read a ton of gaming blogs, and obviously I have found more than a handful of hidden gems since the last time I posted, but here are some of my current favorite reads. Some of these blogs are already pretty popular and others are up and coming, but all of them deserve to be read since they are covering great material.

beneath your fee

If you are a big fan of Lord of the Rings (and/or Lord of the Rings Online), then you owe it to yourself to be reading and listening to Beneath Your Feet. This LOTRO site offers some really fantastic blog posts, exploring things like why LOTRO could use some dynamic content in the game and why thats something the game wont see. They also have some excellent links to resources, including other Lord of the Rings blogs and podcasts. But where they really shine is in their podcasts. Each episode examines something new such as different in-game zones or some facet of Lord of the Rings lore. These are some of my favorite podcasts Ive stumbled upon while reading up within the gaming community. Its definitely worth a read and a listen.

talk tyria

For all things Guild Wars 2, look no further than Talk Tyria. I know that Guild Wars 2 hasnt released yet (less than a month to go!), but Talk Tyria has amassed an amazing amount of material to help you pick your profession and learn everything you need to know about the game before it releases - such as lore, armor, races, crafting, farming, dungeons, etc. If you are anything like me, you do your research before the game releases so you can dive into your main and start leveling without wasting any precious time. They also cover some interesting topics in their Food For Thought category, discussing things like the multi guild sytem and the tricky aspects surrounding character naming. If you want to read up on anything Guild Wars 2, youd be amiss to land anywhere but Talk Tyria.

mmo compendium

I have also been enjoying MMO Compendium a great deal. They have some fantastic mission guides for The Secret World up right now, as well as a plethora of interesting blog posts on The Secret World (obviously, as this is what hes playing right now) including conspiracy theories within the game and hints as to how to use different weapon types. There have also been a lot of fun posts that are slightly off topic, but if you enjoy the writing style as I do, then you will get a kick out of these as well. My recent favorite was one of the series of Zombie Apocalypse Survival Tips, which covers modes of transportation that might help save you should there be a zombie uprising. If you arent reading about gaming, then clearly you should be preparing for the hordes of zombies you might have to face on December 21st, right?

There are so many MMORPGs out there, and more being released all the time; its really a great time to be a gamer. And with the ease and accessibility of the internet, blogging about these games has become increasingly popular. But finding the gems in the ever increasing number of MMO related blogs can be time consuming, and so Im happy to do the digging for you. These three blogs, written by some talented writers who also love their games, offer some good quality writing and exciting topics. Hope you enjoy reading them as much as I have!
